Islands In Borneo
Some time ago, say in the 1930s and 1940s, the very mention of "Borneo" conjured up the world of jungle, orangutans, and adventurers such as "Bring 'em Back Alive Frank Buck". And in many ways, the island still lives up to the billing of one of the "last best places" for adventure.
 

Dive Borneo
The diving offshore is nothing less than sublime, notably at Sabah's famed offshore island, Sipadan. Jacques Cousteau visited the island in the late 1980s and said "I have seen other places like Sipadan – 45 years ago..." And new discoveries, such as Sarawak's Luconia Shoals and Sabah's Layang-Layang atoll, are only now beginning to be explored – a tourism for much of Borneo.

Proboscis monkeys are remarkable animals which can be found in the coastal areas of Borneo.

Rafflesia
The world's largest pitcher plant an also be found in Kinabalu Park. The insect-eating Rajah Brooke's Pitcher Plants have pitchers that can hold up to 3.5 litres of water! While nineteen species of the beautiful Begonia plants have been documented, with probably half the number endemic

In town

  • Sandakan Memorial Park - Located 11km from city, the memorial park is situated on the original site of the Japanese Prisoner of War camp. The memorial park is dedicated to the men who lost their lives in the Borneo Death Marches during the Second World War. A small museum in the centre of the park provides a sombre look at the atrocities which occurred. Negotiate a taxi to take you there (15 min), and expect to pay around RM 30 including waiting time. Entry is free.
  • Puu Gih Jih - a Chinese temple on top of a hill behind Sandakan where you can get beautiful views of Labuk Bay.
  • St Michael and All Angels Cathedral - erected in the late 19th century, it is one of the oldest stone buildings in Sabah.
  • Buli Sim Sim - a picturesque water village on stilts, 3 km east of town past the big mosque. Vans go there from Sandakan.
  • Agnes Keith House and Museum - former home of author Agnes Newton Keith, now restored as a museum.

Commonly, locals like to buy fresh seafood from SANDAKAN "fish market" as "souvenir"  Fresh seafood is selling at cheaper price as compare to city's wet market.   Many outsiders love to buy those items as souvenirs for friends and family.
